Surf Dawgs score four in ninth for win

MESA, ARIZONA -The Mesa Miners (26-17) lost a heartbreaker to the San Diego Surf Dawgs (30-14) by giving up four runs in the top of the ninth inning.

Going in to the ninth inning, the Miners had a 3-1 lead by scoring on an error and RBI by Julius Thames and Caleb Maher. But, San Diego got a solo home run by Cody Clark to trim the lead to 3-2. With two outs and a full count, Darren Doskocil hit a Kevin sheredy pitch into the bullpens for a game-winning 3-run home run. Newly signed Sheredy (0-1), was looking for his second straight save against the Surf Dawgs.

Mesa starter Jon Uhl received a no decision but pitched well in his seven inning of work. He gave up no earned runs on four hits. Sheredy pitched the final two innings. San Diego starter Adam Johnson also pitched seven strong innings, giving up two runs (one earned) on six hits.

The Miners will travel to Surprise to face their cross-town rivals the Fightin' Falcons for a three-game series starting on Tuesday.
