Suns Take Rain-Shortened Meeting with Barons

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - After five innings of play, steady rain showers in downtown Jacksonville halted Sunday night's game, giving the Jacksonville Suns (61-71, 28-34) a 2-1, five-inning victory over the Birmingham Barons (71-60, 31-30) in front of 4,371 at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville.

The Suns lead the current series two games to none.

Jacksonville starter Eric DuBose (1-1) allowed one unearned run with two hits, five walks and ten strikeouts for the win. The strikeout total was the most for any Suns pitcher in 2008. The Birmingham run scored on a fourth inning, two-out throwing error by Suns shortstop Ivan DeJesus, Jr.

Birmingham starter Aaron Poreda (2-4) fell in the loss, allowing two runs in the third on a two-out Ivan DeJesus, Jr. single. The southpaw struck out five batters and allowed four hits over five innings of work.

Game three of the series is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. ET Monday at the Baseball Grounds as Suns LH James Adkins will face Barons RH Justin Cassel. Monday is Hall of Fame Photoball Giveaway!
