Orlando Rays News Release
Mobile, Ala. â Shane Victorino's singled home Tarrik Brock in the bottom of the ninth, propelling the Jacksonville Suns to a 4-3 victory over the Orlando Rays at The Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville Monday.
The last-inning loss capped a frustrating evening for the O-Rays, who had rallied from a 3-1 4th inning deficit to tie the game in the eighth inning. Orlando also lost the services of INF Juan Salas, who was ejected from the game in the 5th inning after arguing with the first base umpire.
Orlando starting pitcher Scott Autrey was effective in his Class AA debut for Orlando, allowing three runs â all earned â on seven hits over six innings. He struck out five while walking two before turning over the game to relief pitcher John Benedetti (3-4), who was tagged with the loss after allowing one run on two hits over the final 2.1 innings of work. Prior to Saturday Benedetti hadn't been tagged with a loss since May 16 against Mobile, but has been charged with a "L" in each of his last two appearances.
Jonny Gomes, Frank Moore and Danny Massiatte each doubled for the Rays, who slipped to 2-4 for the second half of the season and 34-41 overall.
The Rays and Suns continue their four-game series tomorrow at 7:05, with RHP Jose Veras (3-6, 3.39) taking to the hill for the Rays, while Jacksonville counters with RHP Alfredo Gonzalez (2-3, 6.32). The Rays return home for a three-game set with West Tennessee that starts Friday at 7:05 at Cracker Jack Stadium.
