Pittsfield Suns News Release
The Pittsfield Suns are just over a month away from its, June 6, home opener at Wahconah Park. While the Suns staff is busy getting the park back in shape after a long winter, 'The Boys of Summer' are wrapping up their collegiate seasons and preparing themselves for the pilgrimage to Pittsfield. With the players' arrival just around the corner, the Suns are looking for Berkshire County residents to once again open their homes as host families.
Each summer, numerous area residents open their homes to the Suns young players, providing a safe and comfortable place for them to spend their summers. Host families play a vital role in the success of the Suns, especially since the players are all amateur, and do not get paid to play during the summer. In addition, host families have the ability to make or break a player's summer experience, based on how the host families treat the experience.
Suns General Manager, Kevin McGuire, said, "We have always been extremely lucky with how incredible our host families have been. Not only have they provided a much needed service, but they also have built long term relationships with their players, staying in touch long after their "SUN" goes back to college."
Players will arrive for the upcoming summer on June 1, and will depart, no later than, August 15.
There are many benefits for families that become host families, including free season tickets for every member of the household, two picnics that are exclusive to host families with players and the opportunity to influence a player's summer experience in Pittsfield. New for this year, the Suns have added a 10% discount for our host families for all purchases made at the Suns merchandise booth. Host families are not required to feed their players, but are more than welcome to if they'd like. The Suns will make every effort to match players with the most appropriate host family, based on players' lifestyles and any medical limitations such as pet allergies.
Families that would like to get more information on becoming a host family for the upcoming summer should call Suns GM, Kevin McGuire, at (413) 445-SUNS or by email at Kevin@pittsfieldsuns.com .
