Pittsfield Suns News Release

The hot start for the 2017 season continued Sunday as the Pittsfield Suns (4-0) lit up the Worcester Bravehearts (2-1) in the seventh with seven runs to rout the Bravehearts 8-2.

The Bravehearts were ahead the majority of the game, starting with a solo shot by Joseph Caico in the second inning. They tacked on another run in the fourth with an RBI single by Thomas Walraven.

The Suns struggled to get the offense going, but the built up pressure burst in the seventh, starting with a bases loaded walk to Hal Hughes, a Grand Slam by Scott Holzwasser, and Sean Phelan ripping a two RBI single. The Suns had 11 batters see pitches in the 7th. In the 8th when Hal Hughes saw ball four, Kyle Beaulieu took advantage of the catcher's mistake and scored on a passed ball.

Returning from last season, Brandon Shileikis took the mound against Worcester's Jakob Barker. Shileikis got into a jam in the second and fourth, but solid overall, pitching five innings, giving up six hits, two earned runs, two walks, and three strikeouts. He got the no decision after the Suns offense took over the game in the seventh.

Jensen Lewis (1-0) got the win coming in relief, pitching two innings and only giving up a walk. Jack Owens (0-1) was given the loss.

The Elser Animal Control Pest Player of the Game went to Scott Holzwasser, who went 2-5 with a grand slam in the big seventh inning.

The Pittsfield Suns have the game for tomorrow rescheduled to Wednesday, June 7th due to inclement weather. They will face off against the Bristol Blues on the annual morning School Day. Gates open at 9:30 AM with the game starting at 10:30 AM.
