Suns and City of Pittsfield Sign New Licensing Agreement

Pittsfield Suns News Release

PITTSFIELD, MA (February 10, 2015) -When the Suns arrived in Pittsfield prior to the 2012 season, they promised change and tenure. They accomplished the former right away, and are now pleased to announce a new agreement that will ensure the latter.

The Suns and City of Pittsfield announced the signing of an extension at their Hot Stove event last Friday. The agreement extends through the 2017 season, with anticipated options that would keep the Suns in Pittsfield through 2019.

Mayor Dan Bianchi, asked on stage at Friday's event to comment on the extension, remarked, "We've had a great experience with the Suns, and are so pleased to be able to announce that we have just signed a contract with the Suns that will keep them here for many, many more years to come."

Wahconah Park has been the home of Suns Baseball since the inaugural 2012 season. The new licensing agreement will make the Suns the longest tenured team in Pittsfield since the Pittsfield Mets and Pittsfield Astros, who relocated in 2001.

"I'm ecstatic. Wahconah Park is an historic place to watch a ballgame, and the combination of our Group's brand of entertainment and the character of the building is unbeatable. Mayor Bianchi and the City of Pittsfield have proven to be wonderful partners, and we look forward to a long run servicing the greater Berkshire community," said principal owner Jeff Goldklang.

Last season, the Suns became the highest drawing Pittsfield team in the millienium, with an average of 1,803 fans each night. "Our fans and partners are the lifeblood of our operation," said Suns General Manager Kevin McGuire. "They immediately understood our approach....that we're not just going to open the gates and hold a ballgame. Suns games are events, and 28 times a year we get to put on a show."

The Suns 2015 home opener is scheduled for June 5 at 7PM at Wahconah Park. They begin the season on the road Thurs. June 4th in Torrington, Mass.

Season Tickets are now on sale to the general public and can be purchased by contacting (413) 445-7867. For more information on the Pittsfield Suns, please contact Morgan Powell, Assistant General Manager at morgan@pittsfieldsuns.com or by calling (413) 445-7867.
