Arizona Sundogs News Release
PRESCOTT VALLEY, Ariz. - The Arizona Sundogs are partnering with the Yavapai County Contractors Association and the Yavapai College Foundation to fund scholarships for local college students.
Beginning with the January semester of 2012, Yavapai College will accept applications for the Yavapai County Contractors Association Scholarships award. The scholarships, totaling in $3,000, will be available over multiple semesters for students that meet the proper criteria as determined by the YCCA and Yavapai College for their Construction Technology Program.
The Arizona Sundogs and the 300 members of the YCCA will contribute the funding for the scholarships awarded. Students can apply for the scholarships through the financial aid department of Yavapai College.
"The scholarships will be directly linked to the construction industry," said Sandy Griffis, Executive Director of the YCCA. "Due to the current economy, paying for college has become increasingly difficult. YCCA and our partners want to support the future of America and want to make an immediate impact on students pursuing a career in the construction industry."
YCCA is a 51-year-old non-profit construction association that represents the local construction industry. Comprised of licensed contractors, suppliers and other entities, they work to strengthen dialogue with Yavapai County's legislators, government, local citizens, and the community as a whole.
"The construction industry is a vital part of the community," said Sundogs General Manager Chris Presson. "As an organization we always look for ways to strengthen our community, and joint efforts like this will have an immediate impact so we're excited to be involved with the YCCA and Yavapai College"
"The Yavapai College Foundation is delighted to be partnering with the Sundogs and YCCA," added Steven Walker, Vice-President of Advancement for Yavapai College. "We desperately need skilled labor for construction technology in our community and the scholarships provide students the chance to complete our Construction Technology Program and begin their careers."
The sixth season of Arizona Sundogs hockey is brought to you by Cliff Castle Casino-Hotel. The puck will drop on the new season in October 2011.
