Quad City Mallards News Release

MOLINE, Ill. (September 26, 2011) - The Quad City Mallards of the "AA" Central Hockey League today announced they will open their 2011 training camp on Monday, October 10 at the i wireless Center. The Mallards also announced today that they have signed right wing Billy Siers, defenseman A. J. Simone and goaltender Nick Niedert to tryout agreements.

The first full on-ice session of camp is set for 7:30 p.m. on October 10. Double sessions will follow on Tuesday, October 11 and Wednesday, October 12. The Flock will conclude week one with morning practices on Thursday, October 13 and Friday, October 14. The full schedule for the opening week of training camp is detailed below. All training camp sessions are open to the public free of charge.

The first week of camp leads up to the Ice Breaker, which will see the Evansville IceMen, Missouri Mavericks and Bloomington PrairieThunder join the Mallards at the i wireless Center for preseason games Saturday, October 15 and Sunday, October 16. The start times for Sunday's events- an open specialized practice featuring the Mallards and Mavericks and a game between the same two clubs- have been changed. The open practice will run from 12:30 p.m. to 1:00 p.m.; the game will face off at 2:00 p.m. In addition, the opening faceoff for the Mallards' February 28 regular season match-up with the Fort Wayne Komets has been moved to 7:05 p.m.

Siers, a 24-year old native of Mount Prospect, Illinois, split last season- his rookie year- between the Elmira Jackals of the ECHL and the Battle Creek Revolution of the All American Hockey League. The 6' 2", 210-pound Siers scored once and collected three points in thirteen games with the Jackals; he produced nine goals and 25 points in 24 games in a Revolution uniform. Siers turned professional after scoring 20 goals and totaling 47 points in 105 games over four seasons at Division III Lawrence College.

Simone, 22, makes his first foray into pro hockey after scoring 16 goals and notching 31 points while piling up 161 penalty minutes in the junior ranks last season with the Toronto Canada Moose of the Greater Metropolitan Hockey League. The 6' 0", 205-pound, Thornhill, Ontario, native boasts fine hockey bloodlines- Simone is the grandson of hockey Hall of Famer Tim Horton.

Niedert, like Siers, will not face a particularly lengthy trip to get to camp. The 29-year old is a native of Hudson, Iowa and has played for 13 teams in seven leagues over the course of a seven-year career. The 5' 8", 185-pound Niedert spent the bulk of last season with the Danbury Whalers of the Federal Hockey League and enjoyed a three-game stint with the CHL's Dayton Gems. Niedert went 19-14-3 with a 3.52 goals against average, a .898 save percentage and two shutouts in 38 games with Danbury. He recorded a single decision- a loss- in his stint with Dayton but did post a 1.94 goals against average and a .950 save percentage.

"Billy, Nick and A.J. are all good young players and are prepared to make the most of the opportunity to come to training camp and battle it out," said Mallards coach and general manager Dave Bell. "We're looking forward to what should be a very competitive camp."

The Mallards will open their second CHL regular season on home ice on Saturday night, October 22 at 7:05 p.m. against the Rapid City Rush. The Flock's 2011-12 schedule features 33 home games, including 25 weekend dates. 2011-12 season tickets are now on sale- season ticket holders receive significant savings and a host of exclusive benefits.
