Sundogs Notes

Arizona Sundogs News Release

The Arizona Sundogs fell to the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs three games to one in their opening round best-of-5 Conference Quarterfinals series.

Skating in their first postseason game since the 2008 playoffs, the Sundogs held two separate one-goal leads but were unable to hold on as the second-seeded Mudbugs skated away with the 3-2 win in Game 1 on Friday, April 1 at the CenturyTel Center in Bossier-City, Louisiana. Winners of five straight postseason games dating back to the 2008 Southern Conference Finals, the Sundogs twice led by a goal in the opening frame but a pair of second-period markers by Bossier-Shreveport's David Rutherford proved to be the difference.

The Sundogs pulled even at a game apiece in Game 2 of their opening round series against the Mudbugs on Saturday, April 2 at the CenturyTel Center, needing overtime to earn their first postseason victory since the 2008 Ray Miron Presidents' Cup Finals,. The two teams were deadlocked in a 1-1 tie for more than 38 minutes before Luke Erickson tallied his first goal of the playoffs 4:08 into overtime to earn the win.

In Game 3, the visiting Mudbugs topped the host Sundogs by a 5-1 mark on Tuesday, April 5 at Tim's Toyota Center in Prescott Valley, grabbing a 2-1 series lead and forcing Arizona into a must-win situation through the rest of the best-of-5 opening round set. John DeCaro turned away 31 shots in his first start in net in the series.

Bossier-Shreveport wrapped up the best-of-5 series with a 2-1 win in Game 4 on Wednesday, April 6. Arizona saw its season come to an end in heartbreaking fashion as the Mudbugs' Justin Aikins tallied a power-play goal with just 39 seconds remaining in the third period.

The Sundogs closed out the 2010-11 regular season with a 25-31-10 mark, finishing in seventh place in the Berry Conference with 60 points, third-most in franchise history, and earning their third postseason berth in five seasons and first since the team's championship season in 2007-08.
