Arizona Sundogs News Release
PRESCOTT VALLEY, Ariz. - The Arizona Sundogs, in preparation for the upcoming Central Hockey League (CHL) season, announced today the addition of NHL experience to their 2009-10 roster in forward Matt Foy.
Foy, a former sixth round pick (175th overall) of the Minnesota Wild in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft, appeared in 56 games with the NHL club over three seasons, recording six goals, seven assists and 48 penalty minutes (PIM).
His most productive time with the Wild came during the 2007-08 season in which he appeared in 28 games and collected eight points (4g/4a) and 28 PIM.
The 6-foot-2, 225-pound forward has appeared in 237 career American Hockey League (AHL) contests, totaling 65 goals, 76 assists and 428 PIM. The 26-year-old registered career highs in goals (27), assists (23) and points (50) while skating with Minnesota triple-A affiliate the Houston Aeros in 2006-07.
Foy comes in eight games shy of the CHL's veteran rule (301 games) having appeared in 293 regular season games as a pro.
Prior to turning pro, Foy played one season at the major junior level. In 68 games with the Ottawa 67's of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) in 2002-03, the Oakville, Ontario, native averaged nearly two points per game, racking up 61 goals and 71 assists in just 68 contests, helping his club to the OHL East Division Regular Season title and the OHL Eastern Conference Playoff title before falling in the OHL Finals to eventual Memorial Cup Champion the Kitchener Rangers.
Foy went on to add 31 points (11g/20a) and 47 PIM in 21 postseason games that year. His individual play during the 2003-03 season earned him OHL First Team All-Star Honors, the Jim Mahon Memorial Trophy, awarded to the OHL's top scoring right winger and Canadian Hockey League Second Team All-Star honors.
The Sundogs are set to open the 2009-10 regular season at home at Tim's Toyota Center on Friday, Oct. 16 and Saturday, Oct. 17 against the expansion Allen Americans. Both games are slated for 7:05pm (Arizona time) starts. Single game tickets are on sale now and start as low as $14. For more information call (928) 772-5555 or visit www.arizonasundogs.com.
