FC Edmonton News Release

As far as regular season games go, this is about as big as it gets for FC Edmonton in its inaugural year in the NASL.

The Fort Lauderdale Strikers are coming to town Sunday night (Kick Off @ 7:30 p.m./www.fcedmonton.com/Team1260) and the game could go a long way in determing whether or not FC Edmonton will play its first ever playoff game at home or on the road.

The top six NASL teams make the post season. The first and second place teams get a bye in the first round while the third place team plays the sixth and the fourth plays the fifth.

FC Edmonton is currently in the fourth spot but is just two points up on the fifth place Strikers who have a game in hand.

The last time the Strikers were in town the two teams played to a 1-1 draw. The season series is just as tight with each team claiming a win and the one draw.

FC Edmonton finish the season off against the Montreal Impact on Sept. 17 and the team may not know until the following week where it will end up in the standings. That makes a win against the Strikers all the more important.

Defenders Eddy Sidra, André Duberry and Niko Saler will all miss the game through injury (Saler with mono) and defender Paul Matthijs has returned to Holland for surgery on an injured back.

Goalkeepers Lance Parker and Jaswinder Gill remain out with long-term injuries.
