Corpus Christi IceRays News Release
The Corpus Christi Rayz began a week-long instructional camp at the Corpus Christi Athletic Club Monday morning, where they will be teaching local children the fundamentals of hockey. The event, which runs from Monday through Friday, is part of the Athletic Club's Summer Recreational Camp.
The hockey themed week will run from 9:00am-11:00am each day, culminating with a game scrimmage to be played on Friday. The camp is for children ages 5-12 and is run by the Corpus Christi Athletic Club. The Corpus Christi Rayz, The Sting Team Dancers and Stinger Ray the team mascot will be appearing at the camp. The Rayz will address the fundamentals of the game, the proper use of hockey equipment, safety tips, practice hockey drills, and hold Q & A and autograph sessions with the children.
This summer marks the third consecutive year the Rayz have partnered with the Corpus Christi Athletic Club on the entry level instructional camp.
"This is one of the events that we look forward to every off-season," Rayz General Manager Larry Linde said. "The excitement these kids have about the Rayz and the sport of hockey is amazing. This community has really embraced hockey over the last eight years, and educating children about the sport is part of the continued growth of hockey in Corpus Christi."
Events such as this are part of the ongoing effort by the Rayz to promote the sport of hockey in South Texas.
