Students Encouraged to "Be a Force"

September 6, 2011 - Arena Football League (AFL)
Georgia Force News Release

Duluth, GA (September 6, 2011) - In keeping with a commitment to make the Georgia Force a winner off the field as well as on, the team announced on Tuesday that they will be coordinating with local high school sports teams to launch Force In The Community, their community service initiative.

"Our fans would love nothing more than to see an ArenaBowl title," said Force president Cory Howerton, "but on-field accomplishments pale in comparison to the chance to make Gwinnett County a better place."

Under the first act of this initiative, known as High School Heroes, sports teams in Gwinnett County will be challenged to take part in one or more volunteer projects while logging the number of hours participated. The team who logs the most hours will win a behind-the-scenes experience at a 2012 Force game, including complimentary tickets, pregame field passes, and halftime recognition. Any teams logging 50 volunteer hours will also receive complimentary tickets, as well as being recognized on the field at halftime.

"Almost all of these teams already do some kind of work in the community," said Howerton, "so even though helping out is something that comes naturally, this program can make a big difference with even a couple extra hours per team."

This is the first in what will be a number of beneficial programs as part of Force In The Community. Forms can be downloaded at GeorgiaForce.com, and the deadline to submit is March 30, 2012. Contact Mitch Stoermer, Force director of community relations, for more details by calling (770) 609-1314.
