
Strykers Stock up in Draft

Empire Strykers News Release
On Sunday, October 23rd, 2022, The Major Arena Soccer League had its first draft. Empire Strykers started the draft with a three-team trade that had Empire Strykers send the rights to Jorge DeLeon to Mesquite Outlaws, Mesquite Outlaws sent their number two pick to Tacoma Stars, and Empire Strykers received the rights to Ismael DeLuna from Tacoma Stars.
"We are excited to have DeLuna join our team. His physical presence, work rate, and unselfish play, will be an asset to help our team accomplish our goals." -Head Coach Jimmy Nordberg
Empire Strykers had a very successful draft. With the 6th overall pick they secured an experienced and physical player in Kyler Moore, who has played in MASL for St. Louis Ambush, and professionally in Australia.
"Kyler was a standout in the draft!! We didn't think that he would be available at the 6th pick. He is a player that will challenge for minutes and shifts from the start!! His work rate, wiliness to learn, unselfish play are the key qualities that we loved about him!! We are very excited to bring him to the Strykers!!" Head Coach Jimmy Nordberg
In the second round Empire Strykers stole another great player with MASL pedigree. The Empire Strykers selected Philbo Arriago. Arriago has experience with Orlando Seawolves, Florida Tropics, and Cedar Rapids.
"We are thrilled to bring a defender into the Strykers that has experience in the league, solid skill set, knowledge of the game, and a player that will challenge to play for us right off the start. I expect big things from Philbo this year." -Head Coach Jimmy Nordberg
With the third round of the draft, Empire Strykers selected Calvin Aguirre. Calvin has experience with Las Vegas Legends.
"Calvin was very high on our board, and we couldn't believe he was available for us at the 34th pick in the draft. We loved his work rate, energy, technical ability, and coachability. He is what we are looking for in this organization. We are thrilled to have Aguirre and are ready to get to work!" -Head Coach Jimmy Nordberg
Empire Strykers had a very successful draft. Artie Cairel and Jimmy Nordberg had a great experience and really enjoyed the time meeting the players, collaborating with other MASL coaches and staff, and learning from Keith Tozer.
