
Strykers Defeat League Leading Brazos Valley Bombers

The Woodlands Strykers won their game tonight against the Brazos Valley Bombers tonight 4-2. The Bombers are the current leader in the Texas Collegiate League standings. There was a nice crowd on hand, and there was a pregame ceremony honoring The Woodlands High School Highlanders who won the State Championship earlier this month. The two teams will finish their two game series tomorrow night at 7:05 from Strykers Stadium at The Woodlands Christian Academy.
The Strykers got timely hits when needed. On the night, the team collected nine hits. Conner Fikes kept his hot streak alive by going 2-3(one double). Robert Heep was also 2-3 with a RBI. Landon Merka, Kevin Santana, Ricky Sanchez, Daniel Homann and Zach Davis all had one hit. Santana had two RBIs on the evening. The first run came in the bottom of the third inning when Zach Davis, who had gotten on base by drawing a walk, came home on a single by Kevin Santana. The second run was scored by Fikes in the fifth inning when he scored on a RBI groundout by Santana. Fikes had gotten on base by hitting an earlier double. The third run came in the following inning. Davis would line a single that would bring Homann to the plate for the third run. Homann got on base with a previously hit single. The final run for the Strykers came in the eighth inning when Brian Smith, who got on base on an error scored on a single by Heep.
Friendswood native, Will Hibbs made the start on the mound. The freshman from Lamar University was in complete control during the game. The righty went eight innings giving up three hits and two unearned runs. He struck out five Bombers and allowed no walks throwing roughly 80 pitches. Gandy Stubblefield can in and faced three batters, struck out one to record the save.
Come out to the game tomorrow night as these two teams will battle once again at 7:05. It will be the final game of the week for the Strykers as they will travel to Dallas and Kilgore to close out the week.
