Valley Blue Sox News Release
KEENE, NH - The Valley Blue Sox came up on the wrong end of a 7-1 score at Alumni Field against their rivals, the Keene Swamp Bats, on July 5.
Valley falls to 6-14 on the year, as they prepare to return home for tomorrow's 6:35 p.m. Military Appreciation Night against the Ocean State Waves, with free admission for all members of the military and their families and a free Blue Sox Camo Hat, sponsored by La Quinta Inns and Suites, for the first 500 fans through the gate, which opens at 5:30 p.m.
In the bottom of the first, Keene had back-to-back singles off of starter Zach Strecker to get first and third, but could not capitalize as Strecker induced a groundout to shortstop.
However, in the second, with two outs, Swamp Bats left fielder Alex Liquori drove a first-pitch home run to left to make it 1-0 Keene. In the third, right fielder Zach Lauricella hit one over the scoreboard to make it 2-0. They added a fourth run on an RBI single in the fourth.
In the seventh, left fielder Storm Wilson singled and then advanced to second on a wild pitch. That allowed second baseman Garrett Black to rip a double down the line to bring him home. However, the Bats got that run back with an RBI groundout with the bases loaded to make it 4-1.
In the eighth, the Bats extended the lead, as an error, hit batsman, passed ball and two doubles made it 7-1 for the final.
