Strong Kent State Team to be Well-Represented on BlueSox

Butler BlueSox News Release

Butler, PA - Outfielder Alex Miklos will return to the BlueSox this summer along with two Golden Flash teammates with local roots.

Kent State is expected to have another strong team after their first appearance in the College World Series last season. Baseball America projects them to repeat as Mid-Atlantic Conference champions.

"Alex is a hard-nosed, 110% effort, leave it all on the field type player. The type of player every coach wants to have," said Butler manager Anthony Rebyanski. "He was originally supposed to play in another league this summer, but something happened with his contract and called me to see if he could come back to Butler. I couldn't say no."

Miklos joined the BlueSox late last summer due to Kent State's run in the College World Series, but he played well - along with his Golden Flashes teammate George Roberts - once he got to Butler. Miklos and Roberts had more extra base hits per at-bat than any other Butler players. Both ranked in the Prospect League's top 20 in Isolated Power.

"I look for Miklos to be one of our leaders at the top of the lineup," said Rebyanski, "He will have the chance to play every outfield spot. Speed is key in the outfield at Pullman due to its large size, and seeing him play here last summer I know he can patrol that outfield very well."

He also used his speed on the base paths - Miklos tripled in his second at bat in BlueSox pinstripes and promptly attempted a straight steal of home plate. Overall, he completed last summer with 17 runs and 19 RBIs in 31 games while smashing four homeruns.

Pitcher Jason Revesz spent last summer right up the road in Slippery Rock, where he appeared in 18 games for the Sliders. He is a product of Grove City where he played with his twin brother Jeff, who catches at Kent State, and Miklos.

"The first time I saw Jason pitch against us last summer, I remember telling myself he is the type of guy I'd like to have in my bullpen," said Rebyanski.

Jason was red shirted as a freshman last year at Kent State, but continued working on his form.

"Once Jason got to Kent State, he began throwing with a low ¾ to sidearm arm slot. I know last summer was his first experience in live games with it and he had his ups-and-downs, but it caught my attention. I look for him to be an effective one or two inning guy out of the bullpen and to keep hitters off balance with his style of pitching."

Fellow freshman Zarley Zalewski played four years at New Kensington's Valley High School, where he was named captain in his senior year.

"I am eager to get see what Zarley is capable of doing at the collegiate level," said Rebyanski. "We saw him a lot while recruiting him at IUP and he has a lot of great tools both offensively and defensively. He is a switch-hitting middle infielder that is capable of playing third base as well, which will give me versatility at those positions."

That senior season also included other honors for Zalewski including All-Section, WPIAL AAA Player of the Year, WPIAL All-Star, and Valley News Dispatch Player of the Year. He was drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 40th round of the MLB First-Year Player Draft.

"I anticipate these three to be major impact players this summer for us in Butler. I'm excited to follow them and the entire Kent State program this spring as I know they look to make another run at the College World Series," said Rebyanski.

The Golden Flashes begin play on Friday. Two more members of the BlueSox 2013 squad will be announced on Monday.
