Vermont Frost Heaves News Release
South Burlington, VT - Head Coach Jeff Strohm has selected Barre, VT native Joseph P. Salerno to be his first assistant coach for the Frost Heaves upcoming 2010 Premier Basketball League Season.
Salerno, most recently has been the head Boys Basketball Coach at Montpelier High School where he led his team to a final four appearance in just his second year as head coach and was named the Capital League Coach of the Year. Salerno was also selected as Head Coach of the Vermont Men's team for the 2009 VT/NH Merchants Bank Twin State Rotary Classic. Salerno became only the 11th coach in the game's 29-year history to lead the Vermont Men's team to a victory over New Hampshire. He was also the youngest coach at the age of 27 to accomplish this feat.
Salerno commented: " I am extremely excited to become a member of the Frost Heaves family. I'd like to thank Coach Strohm for giving me this great opportunity to work for such a successful and beloved franchise. Growing up I could see the Barre Auditorium from my bedroom window, and to be able to coach at the professional level on that court is really something special to me. I look forward to contributing in what we believe will be another great year of Frost Heaves Basketball in Vermont."
When asked about Salerno, Coach Strohm offered this statement: "I am so excited to have Joe become my assistant and become part of the Frost Heaves family. Joe fulfilled all the qualities we were looking for in an assistant:
- We wanted someone with deep relationships, ties, and a background rooted in Vermont.
- We wanted someone who has a love for the game of basketball and is driven by a desire to be an integral part of the process of building success with the Frost Heaves team.
- We wanted someone who is committed to a lifetime of learning of this game of basketball.
- We wanted someone who would embrace all the qualities and traits that makes the franchise such a tremendous experience.
Frost Heave fans are going to enjoy watching Coach Salerno on the bench and in the community."
