FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (Feb. 15, 2013) - Generations of South Florida's most talented student-athletes have competed on the field at historic Lockhart Stadium, and the Fort Lauderdale Strikers are honoring this tradition by hosting the First Annual Dade-Broward High School All-Star Game on March 2. In coordination with the Greater Miami Athletic Conference and the Broward County Athletic Association, this annual event is an excellent opportunity for South Florida's top high school seniors to be seen by local and national college recruiters and the community.
"The passion and dedication to soccer in South Florida is outstanding, and it's our job to support the kids and everyone who make it possible," said Strikers team president Tom Mulroy. "We are thankful for the efforts of everyone who has helped to make this event a reality for this year and hopefully many more to come."
South Florida is home to some of the greatest athletic talent in the country, with soccer athletes being no exception. The Strikers currently feature six players who attended college in the state of Florida, and five who attended high school in South Florida.
"This game is an extension of the commitment we have to our student athletes, giving them opportunities to showcase their talents to colleges," said Damian Huttenhoff, Director of Activities and Athletics for the BCAA. "We pride ourselves in helping all athletes reach their maximum potential."
Admission to the event will be $5 and will feature two games, with the all-star girls kicking off at 5:00 pm and the all-star boys starting at 7:30 pm. Advanced ticket sales will be available at the Strikers Lockhart stadium office or at the stadium day of game. The game is endorsed by the Broward and Dade County School Boards, as well as the Fort Lauderdale Strikers. The players for both the Dade and Broward teams will be selected by the participating schools' coaches from the same county as the players.
Fans will have the opportunity to meet and receive autographs from Fort Lauderdale Strikers players before kickoff. Joma, the official uniform supplier of the Fort Lauderdale Strikers, will also be supplying the teams playing in both games. Soccer Locker will be the sponsor for Miami-Dade County and SoccerMax will be sponsoring Broward County.
