Fort Lauderdale Strikers News Release
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (July 24, 2014) - The Strikers return to historic Lockhart Stadium this Saturday, July 26th at 7:30 p.m. looking for their first points of the Fall season following shutout defeats to Minnesota United FC and San Antonio Scorpions. The pair of defeats to start the campaign stretched the Strikers winless run to six consecutive NASL matches.
Saturday's opponents, the New York Cosmos, are coming off of a 1-0 victory over Ottawa Fury FC in front of an NASL record crowd of 14,493 at TD Place in Ottawa. It was the Cosmos' league-high seventh shutout of the year.
Fort Lauderdale led the league in goals scored in the Spring season with 18, though the team is yet to find the back of the net in 180 minutes of action this campaign. The Strikers have also failed to score against the stingy Cosmos defense in two previous attempts at Lockhart.
"We need to get three points at home this weekend," said Strikers Head Coach G-nter Kronsteiner. "The Cosmos are a great team especially defensively, so we need to play without making any mistakes. We've had plenty of opportunity these last two games, we just need to finish, and perhaps get a little bit of luck. "We've lost a few games in a row, but it doesn't mean we can't turn it around and win three, four games in a row; this is soccer for you, anything can happen."
Tickets to the match are still available and start at $12 in advance at www.strikers.com/tickets .
The game will be streamed online through NASLLive.com. Fans can subscribe to the service to watch every game in the Fall season. You can also follow the action on Twitter at @FTLStrikers.
