Fort Lauderdale, FL (April 8, 2011) - The Fort Lauderdale Strikers kick off their regular season this Saturday, April 9th at Lockhart Stadium against Edmonton FC at 7:30 PM.

" Obviously we are excited about tomorrow night's opener. The guys have been waiting seven weeks to get this game under our belt. Having the Strikers name back and the legacy we have to live up, adds excitement. At the same time our players are looking to a new mark for the Strikers name, and start a new beginning for the new Fort Lauderdale Strikers," said Strikers Head Coach Daryl Shore.

The long-awaited season opener marks the first this franchise will be recognized as the Fort Lauderdale Strikers. Before the change in mid-February, the club was known as the Miami FC Blues for the past five years.

Miami FC concluded the 2010 season in 4th place in the NASL Conference with a final record of 7-11-12.

This is also the inaugural season for Edmonton FC in the North American Soccer League. Last season, Edmonton only competed in several friendly matches against other NASL and USL teams.
