Fort Lauderdale Strikers News Release
Ft. Lauderdale, FL (January 11th, 2011) - The Strikers announced today the signing of twenty-year old David Santamaria for the 2011 season. Per team policy, the terms and conditions of the deal have not been disclosed.
"David impressed us during last year's Traffic combine and we're glad we could come to an agreement that provides a way for everyone to achieve their goals. We're confident he'll develop well and become an important part of the Strikers in the near future," states Fernando Clavijo, Director of Soccer at Traffic Sports USA, owner of the Strikers.
The forward first caught the attention of the Strikers scouts when he participated in the exclusive Traffic Sports combine held at Fort Lauderdale Stadium in late October. From there, he was offered a trip to Traffic Sports' soccer academy in Brazil, where he excelled after a two-week tryout. He is expected to make a significant impact for the upcoming season.
The Colombian-American forward played at Miami FC's youth academy and quickly became a star for Miami Sunset Senior High School. Soon after, he was offered a scholarship to Jacksonville University where he played one season.
"I'm really happy to be a part of the Strikers family and I am appreciative of the opportunity this organization has given me," states Santamaria. "It is truly a blessing and I will work my hardest to bring a championship to South Florida."
