Fort Lauderdale Strikers News Release
FORT LAUDERDALE, FLA. (September 25, 2013) - The Fort Lauderdale Strikers (3-2-3, 11 points), who need a win in order to stay in the hunt for the Soccer Bowl, will have to do so against a Carolina Railhawks (3-2-3, 11 points) team they have yet to beat on the road. Not only have the Strikers not won in WakeMed Soccer Park since 2011, but the Railhawks currently have a 13-match home unbeaten streak. The match takes place this Saturday, September 28th at 7:00PM in Carolina.
The last time these two teams met was at Lockhart Stadium when the Strikers defeated the Railhawks 1-0. Currently both teams are tied with 11 points, 4 points behind the league leading New York Cosmos, with Carolina holding the edge over the Strikers on goal differential.
"Every game is extremely important from now on," said Strikers head coach G-nter Kronsteiner. "As I said before, we have three games in a row against some of the top teams in the league (Cosmos, Railhawks and Tampa Bay Rowdies) that will show us exactly where we are as a team. The first one against the Cosmos we lost, but now we have a chance to get some points against another good team in Carolina. I don't want to lose another game now. We've worked hard to get to where we are and we deserve to get points there."
The Strikers currently have only one loss on the road this Spring, and have been unbeaten in their last 3 road matches, tying Edmonton and beating Atlanta and San Antonio in their homes.
In their last match, the Strikers lost to the New York Cosmos 2-0 at Lockhart Stadium in front of 7,653 fans, the Strikers largest crowd since their rebirth in 2011. Diomar DÃÆ-az scored two goals in the first half and the home team saw their road to the Soccer Bowl get a little tougher.
