Fort Lauderdale Strikers News Release

FORT LAUDERDALE, FLA. - The Fort Lauderdale Strikers (3-1-2, 10 points) will attempt to push their four match unbeaten streak when they take on FC Edmonton (1-4-1, 7 points) on Sunday, September 15th at 4:00 p.m. at Clarke Stadium in Edmonton, Canada.

"Every game now is important, everyone is pretty close to the top of the table," said Strikers head coach G-nter Kronsteiner. "We had a chance to be in first place after the last game, but we could only come out with a point against San Antonio. Now Edmonton is going to be very tough at home. We need to stay focused on defense and find our chances to score, and come out of there with points."

After a 0-0 draw against the Scorpions, the Strikers have recorded three straight shutouts with Richard Sanchez between the posts. This matches an all time Strikers record set by former Dutch International Jan Van Beveren in 1981, who did it two separate times that year.

Sanchez currently sits at 315 shutout minutes, with the last goal against him coming at the close of the first half against the Scorpions on August 17th in the game that marked the start of the team's unbeaten streak. The league record for consecutive shutout minutes is held by Jeff Attinella, Tampa Bay Rowdies, with 359 minutes, including three complete game shutouts from July 12 through August 4, 2012. Attinella, a Florida native, played four games with the Strikers during the Spring season, on loan from Real Salt Lake of MLS. He helped the team post a 2-1-1 record during that stretch.

FC Edmonton currently sits tied for fourth place with the Atlanta Silverbacks with seven points. FC Edmonton has played to four straight 1-1 draws and are on a five match unbeaten streak heading into this Sunday's game. They are led by Chris Nurse and Corey Hertzog, who have all of FC Edmonton's goals during the current Fall campaign.
