Strikers Inaugurate New Home with Impressive Victory over Ottawa

LAUDERHILL, Fla. - Italian forward Amauri, in his first start for the team, made the Fort Lauderdale Strikers' first match at Central Broward Stadium one to be remember, scoring two goals including a bicycle kick goal in a 3-1 victory over Ottawa Fury FC.

Amauri has now scored three goals in three games since signing for the Strikers on August 9.

Minutes before being substituted to raucous applause from the Strikers faithfull, Amauri battled for the ball as an Ottawa defender was unable to clear in the 77th minute, and with his back to the net scored with a spectacular overhead kick from about 10 yards from goal. Former Fury player Paulo Jr. provided the service in the box with a cross from the right side.

Entering the match on a two-game unbeaten streak, Fort Lauderdale started in strong fashion attacking early with attempts by Paulo Jr. and Jose Angulo in the opening proceedings, before Amauri scored his first goal of the night 17 minutes in. Angulo set up Amauri with a nifty back-heel pass into the area, with the Italian making no mistake in slotting the ball past goalkeeper Romuald Peiser.

Ottawa equalized through Carl Haworth in the 28th minute and controlled much of the action late in the first half. The Fury also missed a chance to take the lead late in the first half as Haworth's penalty kick denied by Fort Lauderdale goalkeeper Bruno, who made a spectacular diving save low to his right.

Fort Lauderdale took the initiative coming out of halftime creating several good scoring opportunities, but did not pull ahead until Amauri's spectacular effort in the 77th minute.

The scoring was capped seven minutes from time when Paulo Jr. again made a quality cross in the area and Maicon Santos -- who came on for Amauri -- got a touch before former Strikers defender Rafael Alves netted an own goal as he attempted to clear the ball from danger.
