Fort Lauderdale Strikers News Release
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (June 15, 2012) - The Fort Lauderdale Strikers (3W-4T-4L) will face the same opponent from just six days ago this Saturday when FC Edmonton (3W-2T-5L) comes to Lockhart Stadium with kick-off at 7:30p.m. This is the final regular season visit for Edmonton to Fort Lauderdale. The Strikers and Edmonton opened the regular season at Lockhart Stadium with the Strikers' Andy Herron scoring the game's only goal.
"We had opportunities to get a result last week against Edmonton and we failed to take advantage of them," said Strikers head coach Daryl Shore. "They won on their home field and now it's up to us to stay focused and organized so we can get three points in front of our fans."
The Strikers fell 1-0 to FC Edmonton last Sunday, June 10. FC Edmonton's Shaun Saiko was kept out of the net, but he did contribute with an assist on the game-winning goal. The midfielder is second in the NASL with five goals and has four assists. Fort Lauderdale could not capitalize on the man advantage it held for most of the game and forward Abe Thompson missed a first half penalty kick which would have given the Strikers the lead. The Strikers mounted a late attack, but were unable to score against Edmonton goalkeeper Lance Parker.
The Strikers have enjoyed success against Edmonton since the Canadian side joined the NASL last season. Fort Lauderdale is currently on a three game home win streak against Edmonton stretching back to last season, including the playoffs. The Strikers lead the all time series with a record of 4W-1T-2L.
The Strikers will once again have the services of the in-form Mark Anderson. Prior to missing the game in Edmonton, Anderson had scored a goal in six of the last seven contests for the Strikers including both U.S. Open Cup games.
The Strikers have one win and one loss against FC Edmonton this season and will look to give Edmonton its fourth road loss of the season.
