FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (Saturday, March 14, 2015) - The Fort Lauderdale Strikers blanked Florida Gulf Coast University 2-0 to earn their third victory of the preseason Saturday afternoon in a friendly at Lockhart Stadium.

Goalkeepers David Meves and Joe Nasco combined for the shutout, while forwards Stefano and Aly Alberto Hassan paced the scoring for the red and gold.

Stefano opened the scoring at the seven-minute mark when his left-footed volley ended up in the back of the net. Evans Frimpong garnered the assist on the play with his cross from the right flank.

Hassan completed the scoring five minutes after the halftime interval when he too used his left foot to score inside the 18-yard box, with PC providing the final pass. The goal is Hassan's third this preseason.

Head Coach Marcelo Neveleff was pleased with the team's progress and Saturday's game, which wrapped up the fourth week of training. "We worked the whole week on pressing really hard, and I think the team did a great job," said Neveleff. "We won a lot of balls away from our goal. Out of those plays, we created two or three opportunities."

Each of the Strikers' three wins in the preseason has been a shutout. Fort Lauderdale blanked Palm Beach Atlantic University 2-0 on March 1, followed by a 3-0 shutout versus Florida International University on the 7th.

The Strikers will enjoy a day off tomorrow, before commencing the fifth week of training camp on Monday at Lockhart Stadium. The team will return to game action next Saturday (March 21) when they host North American Soccer League newcomer the Jacksonville Armada FC at 7:30 p.m. EDT. The match is open to media. It will also be open to current Strikers season ticket holders.
