
Strikers Defeat RailHawks 1-0 at Lockhart Stadium

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. - The Fort Lauderdale Strikers (8W-6T-8L), behind a goal from forward Andy Herron defeated the Carolina RailHawks (6W-7T-7L) 1-0 on Saturday at Lockhart Stadium in front of 3,549 fans. Fort Lauderdale wins the season series with two wins and two draws against Carolina. The Strikers take sole position of fourth place in the NASL following the win.
"We took our chances well and there were a few missed opportunities on both sides," said Strikers head coach Daryl Shore. "The biggest thing was our defensive composure. We defended as a team and were able to limit Carolina's attacks."

The Strikers recorded their third shutout victory of the season against Carolina. All three were 1-0 finals beginning with FC Edmonton on opening night and again on June 16.
Strikers forward Andy Herron scored his eighth goal of the season in the 65th minute from just outside the box. Mark Anderson recorded his third assist of the season on the goal. Fort Lauderdale now has a seven game unbeaten streak at Lockhart Stadium with a record of 7W-3T-1L.
Fort Lauderdale outshot Carolina by a total of 21-4. Strikers goalkeeper Matt Glaeser, who leads the NASL in saves, was only required to stop two shots on goal.
Herron had several chances to extend the Strikers' lead. His best was right after his goal when he was sent through on a breakaway, but put his shot just outside the left post.
The Strikers' best chance in the first half came in the 28th minute when Mark Anderson, who leads the team with 11 goals, hit the post.
Fort Lauderdale next travels to Puerto Rico to face the Islanders on Aug. 18 at 7:30p.m. EDT.
