Strikers Advance in Open Cup to Face FC Dallas at Lockhart Stadium on May 28

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (May 21, 2013) - The Fort Lauderdale Strikers will host MLS Western Conference leading FC Dallas at historic Lockhart Stadium on Tuesday, May 28, in the third round of the 2013 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. The Strikers earned the opportunity after defeating the Laredo Heat 1-1 (7-6 on penalties) on May 21. Tickets for the match are available now, online via the Strikers website.

The Strikers took a 1-0 lead on a goal by Mark Anderson, his third career goal in the Open Cup, in the 54th minute. Then, in the 83rd minute Camilo Botero tied the match for Laredo after a free kick into the box was headed back toward goal and in by the Laredo defender. The teams were scoreless in the 30 minute overtime and the match went to penalty kicks.

Shot after shot, neither team missed a penalty try until Genaro Hernandez had his shot stopped by Matt Glaeser. Stephane Guillaume stepped up for the Strikers with a chance to win, but his shot was saved by Emmanuel Frias. Then Gregory Mulamba's attempt for Laredo was saved by Glaeser, his second consecutive save. Finally, Toni Stahl took his chance, and with a short run up, struck the ball low and to the left to win the match for the Strikers.
