CHICAGO - The United States Hockey League today announced the weekly award winners for the 17th week of the 2009-10 USHL regular season, covering games played from Jan. 18 to Jan. 24.

Congratulations to forward Cody Strang of the Youngstown Phantoms, named Reebok Offensive Player of the Week; defenseman Oleg Yevenko of the Fargo Force, selected as CCM Defensive Player of the Week; and Jeff Teglia of the Omaha Lancers who earned honors as the USHL Goaltender of the Week.

Strang scored four goals over three games for the Phantoms. After scoring two goals through his first 20 games of the season, the first-year USHL forward more than doubled that total with a "natural hat trick", scoring three goals in succession during the second period of the 7-3 victory over Team USA at Covelli Centre Jan. 18.

The native of Madison, Wisconsin scored his three goals over a span of 4:55 which was the first hat trick in the inaugural season of the Phantoms. The 19-year-old then scored the first goal of the game in the 3-2 loss to Cedar Rapids on Saturday.

During a prolific four-year run on the Madison Edgewood High School hockey team, Strang scored 94 goals and exactly 200 points for the Crusaders, including a 39-goal, 76-point senior season that helped him earn Wisconsin's Mr. Hockey award last spring. Strang also excelled in golf at Edgewood, winning the Division 2 individual state title twice in a row and claimed Wisconsin's PGA Junior Championship by four strokes last summer.

The Phantoms begin the unofficial second half of the season Friday at 7:15 p.m. against the Sioux Falls Stampede on Hockey Across America Night. Celebrate the great sport of hockey with Tyler Kennedy of the Pittsburgh Penguins, who will be appearing from 5-7 p.m. Anyone wearing hockey apparel can buy a half-priced ticket to meet the Stanley Cup champion forward and enjoy fast-paced, hard-hitting USHL hockey at the Covelli Centre!
