Storm's Schierhorn Commits to Dartmouth College

KEARNEY, Neb. ‚¬" Dartmouth College gets another player commitment from the Tri-City Storm, as forward Brad Schierhorn made his commitment official Thursday. Schierhorn could join the Big Green as soon as the Fall of 2012 or 2013, meaning he could be back with the Storm next season.

Schierhorn has five goals, including two game-winners and two assists in 15 games this season. The rookie left-winger played Midget Major hockey last season for Belle Tire, which is based out of Detroit. Schierhorn had 18 goals and 19 assists in 48 games during his only season with Belle Tire.

"I wanted to go to an excellent medical school that had solid academics overall," said Schierhorn, who is a native of Anchorage, Alaska. "They are building an excellent hockey program and will be a good program to be a part of in the future."

Dartmouth is a NCAA Division I college hockey program located in Hanover, New Hampshire and competes in the ECAC hockey conference with the likes of Princeton, Yale, Harvard, and Cornell.

"We are excited to see Brad get this opportunity to play at an Ivy League school such as Dartmouth," said Head Coach/General Manager Drew Schoneck. "He's played really well for us lately, and we are glad that Dartmouth recognized it as well."

The 18-year old, who is 6-foot-2 and 180 pounds, will join teammates Rick Pinkston and Brian Ward ‚¬" who are both expected to join Dartmouth next season ‚¬" in a couple seasons playing for the Big Green.

"Both Pinkston and Ward said great things about the program, and that helped me make my decision. They didn't really push me in the decision, but were helpful in the process."

With Schierhorn's commitment, Tri-City currently has 10 players who are committed to NCAA Division I schools. Alex Carpenter (Western Michigan University), Simon Denis (Ferris State Univ.), Bill Eiserman (UMASS-Lowell), Dan Kolomatis (Merrimack College), Cody Murphy (Miami University-Ohio), Dominic Panetta (Ferris State Univ.), Rick Pinkston (Dartmouth College), Zack Rall (Univ. of Alaska-Anchorage), and Brian Ward (Dartmouth College).

The Storm play Friday night against the Dubuque Fighting Saints and Saturday afternoon against the Fargo Force to closeout a six-game home stand at the Viaero Event Center.
