Storm Training Camp News and Notes
January 19, 2004 - Arena Football League (1987-2008) (AFL I)
Tampa Bay Storm News Release
The Tampa Bay Storm officially began preseason workouts for the 2004 season on Monday, a day after the slated opening date for training camp. The Storm's Sunday practice was washed away due to heavy rains in the Tampa area on Sunday morning.
The Storm's first practice on Monday was also hampered by Mother Nature, as it was cut short by about 30 minutes due to rain. Tampa Bay's afternoon session proceeded without incident.
STORM OPEN CAMP WITH 35 PLAYERS
The Tampa Bay Storm added a pair of linemen and lost one as training camp opened. The Storm signed linemen Cyron Brown and Evan Pilgrim and lost the services of lineman Jerry Johnson, who opted to play the 2004 season in NFL Europe instead of the Arena Football League. Johnson was placed on the team's Refused to Report list Monday morning.
Brown (6-5, 280, Western Illinois) played last season with the AFL's Colorado Crush. In 16 games Brown recorded 16.5 sacks and two sacks. He was the leading tackler among linemen and finished second on the team in sacks.
Pilgrim (6-5, 300, BYU) was a third round draft choice by the Chicago Bears in 1995 and played six seasons in the NFL, finishing his career with the Atlanta Falcons. He played the final four games of the 2002 AFL season with the Detroit Fury, recording four tackles. He will be counted on as a center with the Storm and will compete with Rod Williams and Jorge Diaz for playing time at that position.
A NEW STORM FAN
Tampa Bay Storm wide receiver/defensive back Clif Dell and his wife Karly are the proud parents of a new baby girl. Karis was born on Sunday evening and is the second child for Clif and Karly. They also have a son named Ryan.
STORM FEST ON SUNDAY
The Tampa Bay Storm will host Storm Fest on Sunday, January 25, at the St. Pete Times Forum. The event will feature a scrimmage against the Orlando Predators, the Storm's season opening opponent.
Storm Fest begins at 4:00 pm with inflatables and interactive games on the Plaza. The Storm are also offering $1 beers and free parking, and will give away a pair of 2004 Storm season tickets, along with other merchandise. Storm season ticket holders will also be able to pick up their season tickets during the event.
