Chicago Storm News Release

MILWAUKEE, WI. -- The Chicago Storm finished the clean sweep of the MISL Preseason Tournament, defeating the host Milwaukee Wave 10-4 Saturday evening at the U.S. Cellular Arena. The win came after Friday nights' victory versus the Orlando Sharks and Saturday morning's win over the Detroit Ignition.

The Wave opened up the scoring. Second year star Marcio Leite dribbled the ball into the Storm goalkeeper area, eluded two players and shot the ball past Chicago Goalkeeper Jeff Richey.

Chicago Countered at the ten minute marker. After Milwaukee forward David Peplinski received a two minute penalty for holding, newcomer Carlos "Chile" Farias evened the score. Midfielder Mariano Bollella (pictured above) worked the point of the power play, finding a wide open Farias to the right of the goal. Bollella sent the pass and Chile one-timed the left footed shot near post to even score, 2-2.

In the second quarter two Storm hopefuls hooked up for a score. 2007 MISL College Draft Pick Ian Etherington from Notre Dame held the ball directly to the right of the Wave goal. Etherington rocketed a pass to an onrushing Jeremy Gold and Gold redirected the ball past Milwaukee goalkeeper Nick Vorberg. The goal gave the Storm the 4-2 lead going into the half.

In the third quarter the Storm offense erupted. At the five minute marker, defender Will Kletzien (pictured right) rushed up the center of the field dropping the ball off to his right, to Bollella. Bollella completed the give- and-go sending the pass right back to Kletzien who blasted in the goal. Less then a minute later Bollella scored as Jeremy Gold crossed the ball into the goalkeeper area and bollella directed the shot into the lower left hand corner of the net. Forty seconds later, Benny Chavallo, a member of the Storm's developmental team Tormenta scored his first goal of the game. Chavallo received a pass, just left of the goalkeeper area from Ian Etherington. Chavallo took the right footed shot and curled it just in the far post to give the Storm the 10-2 lead going into the fourth quarter.

After a Storm penalty for too many men on the field, former Storm target man Anthony Maher beat Jeff Richey after a pair of shots. Richey deflected the first shot but the ball came right back to Maher who tapped in the goal. That was all the Wave could muster as Chicago held on to win the game 10-4, giving the Storm the clean sweep of the MISL Preseason Classic Tournament.
