Lake Elsinore Storm News Release
Rancho Cucamonga -After a shutout to begin the series the Storm jumped out to a 2-1 early lead. But a three-run second left the Storm struggling for runs and fell short falling 5-3 to the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes.
Justin Miller put the Storm on the board with a home run that lifted up and over the double walls in left field. This is Miller's ninth home run in just 53 games with the Storm.
Still in the first Tommy Medica drew a walk and would score after a wild pitch and a Casey McElroy single to left field for the 2-0 early lead.
McElroy went 3-for-4 on the day collecting two RBI for the Storm. McElroy is now batting .381 with a total of 16 RBI in 23 games.
The Quakes would pick up a run in the bottom of the first when Pedro Baez doubled to center field scoring Joc Peterson.
In the bottom of the second Storm starter Matt Andriese would struggle. Jonathan Garcia hit a leadoff double and scores on a single by Jan Vazquez to tie the game at 2-2. Two more runs would score by way of a ground out to second and a sacrifice fly to centerfield scoring both Vazquez and Scott Wingo for the 5-2 lead.
Andriese would settle down but the damage has been done, the fourth, fifth and sixth innings went scoreless for both teams before Rancho collected an insurance run in the seventh when Pederson hit a sacrifice fly scoring Wingo.
The Storm picked up one more run in the eighth when Miller walked, stole second and scored on another single by McElroy but time ran out and the Quakes tied the series up at one a piece.
The rubber match will be Thursday at 7:05 p.m. where RHP Burch Smith (9-4) will take the mound for the Storm against RHP Andres Santiago (5-3).
The Storm return to The Diamond on Friday for a night of fireworks on Children's Charities Night, Come as the Storm take on the Modesto Nuts and support local Children's Charities by bringing school supplies for a $5 game ticket! The San Diego Charger Girls will also be in attendance supporting the night.
