Storm snaps eight-game losing streak

East Rutherford, NJ - Led by the three-point performance of forward and game MVP Mark Morley the New Jersey Storm defeated the Ottawa Rebel 16-15 in National Lacrosse League action tonight at the Continental Airlines Arena.

In front of 6,302, the Storm notched their first victory under new head coach Peter Vipond while snapping a franchise-long eight-game losing steak. With the win, the Storm improves to (3-9) and remains in third place behind Colorado in the Eastern Division.

Assisting Morley with the Storm scoring were forwards Roy Colsey with (3G, 1A) and Scott Stewart with two goals.

Headlining the Ottawa (5-6) offense was forward Jason Clark with four points (3G, 1A). The team now falls to into last place in the Northern Division behind Vancouver.

Storm goaltender Matt Roik notched his second victory of the season with 35 saves while across the turf Ottawa net minder Andrew Leyshon suffered the loss, despite stopping 23 New Jersey shots.

With the victory tonight, New Jersey splits the season series with Ottawa after suffering a 12-8 road loss to the Rebel on February 1, 2002. The all-time series now sits as two games apiece.
