
Storm sign Rivera for rest of 2007-08 season

HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill. - The Chicago Storm announce defenseman Edgar Rivera is signed for the remainder of the 2007-08 season. Per club policy, terms of the agreement are not released.
The Wheeling, Ill., native signed two 15-day contracts before coming to terms with a season-long agreement late last week. Rivera is a 2001 graduate of nearby Wheeling High School. He has four blocks in 11 matches this season for the Storm.
"We're very pleased with the upside," Storm head coach Steve Morris said. "He's young and it's a learning process. We're going to give him his spots so he can contribute."
The Storm (9-4) currently share first place in the Major Indoor Soccer League standings with the Detroit Ignition and Milwaukee Wave. Chicago defeated the California Cougars, 17-8, on Saturday, Jan. 5, in Stockton, Calif.
On Friday, Jan. 11, the Storm travel to Detroit for a 6:35 p.m. match at Compuware Arena. Chicago holds a 5-0 road record this season and is looking to shake off a 25-7 loss to the Ignition on Dec. 22, 2007.
The Storm's next home match is Jan. 18 against the defending champion Philadelphia KiXX, with Fox Soccer Channel providing a live broadcast. Doors open at 6 p.m. and the game starts at 7 p.m.
