
Storm Re-sign All-Ironman lawrence Samuels

TAMPA BAY - The five-time world champion Tampa Bay Storm have re-signed wide receiver/linebacker Lawrence Samuels to a one-year contract, Head Coach and General Manager Tim Marcum announced today.
Samuels, 6-foot-2, 210 pounds, was named to the 2007 AFL All-Ironman Team and All-Arena Second Team. He will return for his 14th season in a Storm uniform and 15th overall. Samuels led the team in receiving with 122 receptions and finished third in receiving yards (1,143) and receiving touchdowns (15).
"I am really excited about coming back," said Samuels. "We went through a lot this past season but were able to end it on a positive note. We really came together as a team and I look forward to carrying that momentum into next season."
With his first reception in 2008 Samuels will further solidify his place in AFL history as he will become the fourth player to accumulate 900 receptions. His 899 career receptions rank fourth all-time in the AFL.
Samuels ranks near the top of the AFL in several offensive and defensive categories. He has 34 defensive fumble recoveries (1st all-time), 119 consecutive games with a catch (2nd all-time, longest current), most seasons with one team (tied for second), 187 games played (3rd), 20 forced fumbles (4th), 10,511 career receiving yards (6th), 447.0 career tackles (13th) and 28 interceptions (tied for 23rd).
He originally signed with Tampa Bay in June of 1994. Samuels left the team to play with the News Jersey Gladiators in 2001 and returned to play for the Storm in 2002.
The Tampa Bay Storm look forward to next season as many key players from 2007 will return. AFL Co-Rookie of the year and All-Rookie quarterback Brett Dietz, fullback Torrance Marshall and lineman Tim McGill, Marcus Owen and Tom Kaleita among others will be back to take the 2008 AFL season by storm.
