Published on July 10, 2007 under Arena Football League (1987-2008) (AFL I) News Release
NEW YORK - San Jose SaberCats QB MARK GRIEB, Chicago Rush LB JOHN MOYER, and SaberCats FB/LB PHIL GLOVER have been named Offensive Player, ADT Defensive Player, and Ironman of the Week, respectively, for the Divisional Round of the 2007 AFL playoffs.
OFFENSIVE: Grieb (6-2, 210, UC - Davis) completed 30-of-41 passes for 315 yards with nine touchdowns as the SaberCats defeated the Colorado Crush, 76-67, on Saturday. Grieb led San Jose's offense to scores on all 11 of the SaberCats possessions, accounting for nine as he tied the single-game postseason record for touchdown passes in a game. Grieb also compiled a passer rating of 134.6 as San Jose defeated Colorado for the first time in postseason play. The SaberCats will next host the defending ArenaBowl Champion Chicago Rush at HP Pavilion in the American Conference Championship Game on Russell Athletic ESPN Arena Football Saturday, July 14, at 4 p.m. ET (ESPN, ESPN360.com).
ADT DEFENSIVE: Moyer (6-3, 275, Eastern Illinois) registered three tackles, two tackles for loss, two sacks, two quarterback hurries and one pass defensed as the Chicago Rush defeated the Los Angeles Avengers, 52-20, on Monday night. Moyer led Chicago's defense on three defensive stops throughout the second, third and fourth quarters that helped the Rush hold Los Angeles scoreless in the second half. Moyer's quarterback hurry during the Avengers first possession of the second quarter led to an incomplete pass on fourth-down and subsequent touchdown by WR ROB MAGER two plays later. His six-yard sack on fourth-down from the Chicago eight-yard line during the third quarter would lead to Mager's second touchdown two plays later, pushing the Rush lead to 18 points. Moyer's best series came in the fourth quarter where his four-yard sack of Los Angeles QB SONNY CUMBIE and pass defense two plays later on fourth-down from the Chicago 15-yard line helped secure the victory.
IRONMAN: Glover (6-0, 272, Utah) rushed four times for one yard and two touchdowns and caught one pass for five yards and one touchdown on offense. On defense, Glover recorded three-and-a-half tackles, two tackles for loss and two sacks as San Jose's defense held off the Crush en route to a 76-67 victory. Glover notched his first sack on the second play from scrimmage, dropping Crush QB JOHN DUTTON for a seven-yard loss. His second would come with 37 seconds remaining in the game as San Jose held off Colorado's final efforts to score.
