Storm players up for post-season awards

TAMPA BAY – Storm and Arena Football League fans can vote now for this season's Ironman, Offensive Player, Defensive Player, Rookie, Coach, Lineman and Kicker of the Year online at www.arenafootball.com.

Kicker Matt George is currently fourth in the online voting for kicker of the year. He ranks fifth in the league in scoring among kickers with 138 points scored. George has connected on 87 of 96 extra point attempts this season and has hit 17 field goals on 29 tries. He ranks third in the league in field goal percentage, making good on 58.6 percent of this attempts.

Storm players who are surprisingly not in the top five in online fan voting are DS Jonathan Ordway, WR/LB Lawrence Samuels and QB Shane Stafford. Nominated for Defensive Player of the Year, Ordway leads the AFL in total passes defended with 35 and in pass break ups with 29. He also has six interceptions, which ties him for fifth best in the league.

Samuels has made a strong case for Ironman of the year after posting 118 receptions for 1,374 yards and 18 touchdowns. He ranks third in the league in receptions, while holding the fifth best numbers in receiving yards and yards per game (91.6 yards/game). Defensively he ranks third on the Storm with 30.5 tackles and second in interceptions with two. He has also recorded two pass breakups and one fumble recovery.

Samuels has established a Storm single-season for receptions this season. He is also just 179 yards short of setting a franchise record for receiving yards in a season. Samuels has set career bests in receptions, yards, yards per game and is one touchdown short of tying his career high.

Stafford is having a career year behind center for Tampa Bay during the 2005 campaign. He has completed 379 of 593 passing to date to lead the league in both categories. He has thrown for a career high 4,245 yards this season, good for third in the league. With one game remaining Stafford has set new Storm single-season records for yards, completions, attempts and touchdowns with 78. John Kaleo held all previous records from his 2003 season with Tampa Bay.

Current online voting leaders are Kevin Ingram of the Los Angeles Avengers for Ironman of the Year, Rashad Floyd of the Colorado Crush for Defensive Player of the Year, Damian Harrell of Colorado for Offensive Player of the Year, Silas Demary of Los Angeles for Lineman of the Year, Remy Hamilton of the Avengers for Kicker of the Year, and Doug Plank of the Georgia Force for Head Coach of the Year.
