Tampa Bay Storm News Release
Tampa Bay - On Friday, November 20, members of the Tampa Bay Storm aided Derrick Brooks Charities in distributing 60 Thanksgiving dinners to families in the Sulphur Springs Community of North Tampa.
"I am grateful the lord has blessed us with opportunity to provide these dinners to the families of the Sulphur Springs community through Derrick Brooks Charities Holiday giveaway," said Storm president Derrick Brooks. "Tonight was special in that we were able to get some of our Storm players involved in the community and help kick off the holiday season for these families."
Storm players and coaches arrived early to mingle with the families and children at George Bartholomew North Tampa Community Center. They spent time sharing stories and taking pictures with all the people prior to Brooks addressing the families and giving an invocation.
"This event is a terrific opportunity to help members of our community," said George Bartholomew Community Center director Harold Hart. "With the generosity of Derrick Brooks Charities, Publix and help from the Tampa Bay Storm distributing the food, this is a great way to make a positive impact on the youth. Many of the youth in this community aspire to be professional athletes, so it makes sense for the players to get involved and provide a constructive impression upon them."
Publix Super Markets, in partnership with Derrick Brooks Charities provided the food necessary to give 60 families the opportunity to celebrate Thanksgiving with a full table of food family and loved ones.
"This is a good day in the community," added Storm head coach Dave Ewart. "The AFL is an all fan friendly league and it makes sense for us to do these types of events in the community. The Tampa Bay area is fortunate to have a guy like Derrick Brooks serve the community."
