Tampa Bay Storm News Release
Tampa Bay - Monday evening the Tampa Bay Storm took the opportunity to join team president Derrick Brooks and his charity, Derrick Brooks Charities, Inc., in passing out Thanksgiving dinners to 50 families at Springhill Park Community Center in the Sulphur Springs neighborhood of Tampa, FL.
"The Storm organization is always looking for ways to give back to the community," said Brooks. "Being able to provide these families with holiday dinners is a blessing. It is our goal as an organization to be positive role models for the local community. Events like these help us achieve that goal."
Derrick Brooks Charities hosts many programs throughout the year, including the Thanksgiving Holiday Giveaway. For the players, it is a great way to give back to the community and allows them to interact with local families and children.
"I am from Tampa so giving back to my hometown is extremely important to me," said Storm defensive back and Tampa native James Harrell. "This is an outstanding event, and I feel blessed to be able to provide these families with dinner for the Thanksgiving holiday."
The Storm players were accompanied by local youth from the community center. They put together packages that contained turkeys, vegetables and other assorted Thanksgiving dishes. It was a wonderful way to kick off the holiday season.
"This was a great experience for me," said Storm wide receiver Tyrece Gaines. "We have the ability to help bring a community together and assist in improving the holidays. I am happy to have been a part of this event and making an impact in this community."
The event was a special night for the families involved. Many of the kids attended Storm games during the 2013 and this event provided them with the chance to meet and interact with some of their favorite Storm players.
