Tampa Bay Storm News Release

Tampa Bay - On Thursday, November 17, members of the Tampa Bay Storm participated in the Great American Teach In. This was an opportunity for players and staff to volunteer at schools and speak to students about careers and the benefits of education.

Storm head coach Dave Ewart and quarterback Nick Hill were among those that participated as each stressed the importance of education in striving for one's goals.

Ewart, one of several staff members to visit Tinker Elementary School on MacDill AFB, spoke to several classes, with education and hard work as a consistent theme. "I really enjoy speaking to kids, they are a captive audience," said Ewart. "Even though they are young, it is never too early to stress the importance of education and what it means to work hard. Kids are the biggest dreamers of us all and once you have an opportunity to interact with them you want to do whatever you can to help them realize their dreams."

Hill, who spent the past two seasons with the Orlando Predators, made his first public appearance in the Tampa Bay community as a member of the Storm. He talked to third and fifth graders at Ballast Point Elementary School about setting goals, the importance of education and the difference between the Arena Football League and the National Football League.

"Today was fun, I earned my degree in education and have worked in schools in the past," said Hill. "I enjoy working with young children. Education is important and I wanted to get across to them that the more education they have, the more options they have. While I am a football player now, I can still go and teach. I have a backup plan thanks to my education."

This is just one of the many ways that Tampa Bay Sports and Entertainment reaches out to the community. In a company wide effort, more than 30 people from the Tampa Bay Storm and Lightning, both staff and players, participated in the Great American Teach In.

The Five-Time World Champion Tampa Bay Storm celebrates its 25th season in the AFL. The 2012 Season home opener is Friday, March 16 versus South Division rival Georgia Force.
