SaberCats Welcome FB Tommy Taggart and WR Fred Williams

SAN JOSE, CA - The SaberCats today announced FB Tommy Taggart and WR Fred Williams have been added to the San Jose roster.

"Tommy brings the physicality and mean streak we are looking for at the fullback position," said Owner/Head Coach Darren Arbet. "Fred is an explosive playmaker at wide receiver and kick returner who will be a welcome addition to our roster as we look to fill it out for 2012."

Taggart (6-3, 285, Oklahoma) started in 16 games at fullback for the New Orleans VooDoo in 2011. In his first season on the offensive side of the ball in the Arena Football League, he led the team in rushing with 44 rushes for 193 yards and nine touchdowns to along with seven receptions for 33 yards. Taggart spent his rookie season in the AFL with the Dallas Vigilantes playing on the defensive line. In seven games for the Vigilantes, he posted 14.0 tackles with 1.5 for loss.

Taggart attended Oklahoma after transferring from Midwestern State University. He earned all-conference honors on the defensive line his redshirt freshman season at MSU. A native of Euless, TX he attended Trinity (TX) High School where he twice earned all-district honors at linebacker.

Williams (6-0, 195, St. Cloud State) played the past four seasons for the Huskies where he set numerous records at wide receiver. He holds the school records for career receptions (264) and receiving yards (3,804) as well as season records for receptions (95, 2010), receiving yards (1,616, 2010) while finishing second behind fellow SaberCat Ben Nelson in receiving touchdowns (17, 2010).

A three-time Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference selection and first-team Division II All American as a senior, Williams enjoyed his best season in 2010 where he caught 95 passes for 1,616 yards and 17 touchdowns. A native of Milwaukee, WI, he attended Milwaukee South Division High School where he earned all-conference, all-area, all-region and Milwaukee Journal All-State Honorable Mention in football.-

The SaberCats roster now stands at 30 players with nine players returning from the 2011 roster.
