Island Storm News Release

(Charlottetown, PE) Following the toughest and most competitive training camp in Island STORM history, Head Coach Joe Salerno has selected the 12 players who will wear STORM uniforms for the upcoming NBL Canada season.

The 2014-15 edition of the Island STORM will feature 4 returnees and 5 NBL All-Stars coming from across Canada and the United States.

Key returnees to the team this year include NBL All-Stars Mike Williams and Brandon Robinson. Williams, a McDonalds All-American, was a member of the first STORM team and led that team in almost every offensive and rebounding category while also making the All-NBL Defensive 1st Team. Robinson, a former NBL Scoring Champion and NBL Rookie of the Year, averaged 23 points per game with the STORM 2 years ago and holds the team record for most points in a single game scoring 42 against the Moncton Miracles. Also returning to the STORM is fan favorite and Island native Doug McKinney along with 6'10" center Nick Evans, who might be in the best shape of his career.

New to the mix this year are 3 more NBL All-Stars in former Canadian National Team member Olu Famutimi, sharp-shooting guard Johnny Mayhane, and versatile forward Cordell Jeanty. Famutimi, also a McDonald's All-American, is an experienced player who has been to 4 different NBA Summer Pro League teams, an NBA training camp, and averaged 11.5 points and 5.5 rebounds in an NBA D-League season. Mayhane, meanwhile, led the NBL in 3 point shots made per game last season and finish 4th in league scoring while playing for the Moncton Miracles.

Other newcomers which will be key to STORM success this season include McDonalds High School All-American and 6'11" center Renardo Sidney from Mississippi and University of Virginia 3 year starter at point guard, Sammy Zeglinski.

Rounding out the team are 3 players who had outstanding training camps to make the team. They include point guard Myron Strong from Memphis, shooting guard Rashad Whack from Maryland, and former University of New Brunswick star Alex DesRoches. DesRoches, who features a large extended Prince Edward Island family, is part of the strongest Canadian contingent the STORM has ever had.

The line-up looks like this for Thursday's game:

Sammy Zeglinski - 6'1" Point Guard, University of Virginia

Myron Strong - 6'2" Point Guard, University of Texas-El Paso

Johnny Mayhane - 6'4" Shooting Guard, Tulane University (NBL All-Star)
