Chicago Storm News Release
HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill. (Dec. 26, 2008) - The Chicago Storm professional indoor soccer team looks to rebound from its home opener loss when it hosts the Detroit Ignition at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 27, at the Sears Centre Arena in Hoffman Estates. Both teams share 1-1 records in the Xtreme Soccer League standings, one game behind 2-0 Milwaukee. The first 2,000 fans who attend Saturday's game receive a free hot dog. Doors open at noon.
The last time the Storm hosted the Ignition, Chicago put together a stellar defensive effort en route to a 9-2 victory on Jan. 5, 2008. Storm goalkeeper Jeff Richey saved 13 of 14 shots. With a victory Saturday, the Storm would improve to 4-1 against Detroit at the Sears Centre Arena.
The Storm will see a familiar face in the opposing net in Detroit goalkeeper Danny Waltman, who played for the Storm in 2004-2005 and 2005-2006. Ignition head coach Matt Johnson also has Storm ties, having played in 20 games for Chicago in 2005-2006.
Chicago is led by forward Chris Cerroni, who is coming off of a two-goal effort against Milwaukee on Dec. 20. He leads the Storm with three goals and six points. Goalkeeper Richey could garner his 25th career regular season victory if Chicago topples Detroit this weekend.
The Chicago Storm organization is playing its fifth season of professional indoor soccer. Chicago's next Xtreme Soccer League match takes place at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 27, at the Sears Centre Arena. Storm offices are located at 5333 Prairie Stone Pkwy., in Hoffman Estates.
