Storm held in check by Blast

HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill. - In a pattern similar to the Chicago Storm's and Baltimore Blast's first meeting earlier this season, the Storm fell into an early hole and could not recover. Baltimore scored 5 seconds into the match and eventually won the Major Indoor Soccer League match, 19-9, at the Sears Centre Arena. The Storm are 0-2 against the Blast this season, having fallen to Baltimore, 18-8, on Feb. 1.

Fabinho put together a well-rounded effort for Chicago with two second-quarter goals, an assist and six points. In the net, Jeff Richey suffered the loss, making one save and allowing four goals in the first half. Jim Larkin and a slew of sixth attackers rode out the rest of the match. Larkin made six saves.

With the loss, the Storm fall to 13-9, while Baltimore leapfrogs Chicago in the MISL standings with a 14-8 mark. Next up for the Storm is an 8:45 p.m. match at La Raza de Monterrey on Thursday, Feb. 28. The Storm's next home match is at 7 p.m. March 8 against La Raza at the Sears Centre. Following that game is a concert by Duelo.

For Baltimore, Sagu saved 16 of 20 shots, while Denison Cabral and Machel Millwood each scored two goals.

The Storm's Ian Bennett contributed a third-quarter goal and Mark Ughy tallied a goal in the fourth quarter.

Following the match, the Chicago-based Lovehammers performed as part of the Storm's and Q101's game and a concert series, brought to you by Comcast. During Saturday's match, Cabral posted two of Baltimore's first three goals, which came in the first 6:21 of the first quarter for a 7-2 lead. Cabral's first goal was a three-pointer. Gabriel Celenza netted the Blast's second goal and Lucio Gonzaga capped off the first-quarter scoring at the 11:41 mark for a 10-0 lead.

In the second quarter it was all Fabinho with a two-pointer at the 2:49 mark, off of a Mariano Bollella assist, and a three-pointer at the 4:58 mark for a 10-5 deficit.

In the third quarter, Millwood and Michael Todd notched goals for Baltimore, giving the Blast a 14-5 advantage. Bennett later scored off of a Matthew Stewart assist.

In the fourth quarter, Millwood and Robbie Aristodemo had goals for Baltimore, sandwiched in between by Ughy's goal off of a Fabinho assist.
