Storm halt Rockford rally in MISL-AISL exhibition rematch

LOVES PARK, Ill. - Carlos "Chile" Farias and recent college draft pick Stephen Brust scored two goals apiece as the Major Indoor Soccer League's Chicago Storm defeated the American Indoor Soccer League's Rockford Rampage, 7-3, on Saturday at the Victory Sports Complex.

Farias' second-quarter goal, which floated over Rockford goalkeeper Dimitri Meletis, gave Chicago a 2-1 lead, and the Storm had the lead the rest of the way. Farias added a third-quarter goal at the 4:17 mark for a 3-1 advantage. Both goals were assisted by Ian Bennett. Brust, an Arlington Heights, Ill., native, scored goals in the first and fourth quarters.

Saturday's match was played with AISL scoring - 1-point and 2-point goals. Chicago is 3-0 against Rockford in exhibition play over the past two seasons. On Tuesday, the Storm edged the Rampage, 16-14, at the Sears Centre Arena in Hoffman Estates, Ill.

With two exhibition matches in the books, the Storm resume Major Indoor Soccer League play when they travel to Philadelphia for a match at 9:35 a.m. (CST) Wednesday against the defending champion KiXX. Chicago's next home match is at 7 p.m. Feb. 23 against the Baltimore Blast at the Sears Centre Arena.

The Storm held off a late Rampage rally in the fourth quarter. Rockford cut a 4-1 fourth-quarter deficit to 4-3 in a span of 4 minutes. But Brust put an end to the Rampage's momentum. And with Rockford using a sixth attacker in the closing minutes, the Storm's Stephen Armstrong launched a two-point, open-net goal to cap off the scoring. Fabinho had the Storm's other goal early in the fourth quarter.

Chicago used three goalkeepers Saturday. Jeff Richey played the entire second half, Jim Larkin the first quarter and St. Charles, Ill., native Trae Manny held the Rampage scoreless in the second quarter.

Zlatko Zebic, Ante Cop and Bato Radoncic tallied Rampage goals. Radoncic's power-play goal gave the Rampage an early 2-0 lead in the first quarter.
