HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill. - Carlos "Chile" Farias scored two goals, including a three-pointer as the Chicago Storm topped the Orlando Sharks, 9-6, in Major Indoor Soccer League play Saturday at the Sears Centre Arena. The win put an end to Chicago's two-game losing streak.
Next up for the Storm is a home match against Monterrey La Raza at 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 4. Doors open at 6 p.m. Chicago defeated La Raza, 16-12, on Nov. 1, during Monterrey's MISL debut in Mexico.
With a few juke moves Saturday night, Farias found a hole in Orlando's defense and tallied an unassisted three-point shot to give the MISL-leading Storm (8-3) a 3-0 lead in the first quarter. Farias added a two-pointer at the 5:42 mark of the third quarter for a 9-4 advantage.
Led by Fabinho's three blocks, the Storm defense blocked eight Orlando shots, and goalkeepers Jeff Richey and Jim Larkin combined for eight saves. For the Sharks, Paul Nagy and J.P. Rodrigues, who was a sixth attacker late in the fourth quarter, combined for five saves. Orlando (0-13) also had eight blocked shots.
Chicago's Awadalla Morad earned his first goal of the season, and Chris Brisson also contributed a two-point shot. For Orlando, Chris Cerroni, Damien Pottinger and Shawn Boney found the back of the net. Boney's goal was his first of the season in his second game.
