Storm defeats Steelheads again

Great Lakes Storm News Release

Birch Run, MI – The Great Lakes Storm won the game tonight against the Gary Steelheads 137-127 (6.0, 1.0) to move to 17-11 on the season. Gary was playing their first game under newly appointed Head Coach Dale Osbourne. Osbourne took over the reigns after Duane Ticknor resigned due to health reasons yesterday. However, it was an unsuccessful coaching debut as Gary dropped to 9-12 on the season.

Playing under a new Head Coach, Coach Bergman was worried that the Steelheads would come out with some extra kick. Fortunately for the Storm they came out flat and the Storm enjoyed a 14-point lead late in the first quarter. The Storm would take the first quarter 36-23 behind 10 points and six rebounds from Jackie Butler. Gary would trim the lead to single digits early in the second, but the Storm continued to increase the lead as they went into halftime leading 64-47, taking the second quarter 28-24. The Storm pushed the lead to as many as 26 points in the third behind 13 points from Mark Jones. The Storm won the third quarter shootout 47-44. What looked to be an easy win for the Storm became interesting as the Steelheads cut the lead to eight points with 1:30 to go in the game. Butler responded with a huge bucket as the Storm was able to hold off the comeback effort. Gary avoided the quarter points sweep by winning the final quarter 36-26. The Storm's next game is on Tuesday, January 25th on the road against the Rockford Lightning. Tip-off is set for 7:05 at the Rockford MetroCentre.
