Chicago (Sunday, January 23, 2005) – The Chicago Storm picked up their second straight victory with a 7-3 win over the rival Milwaukee Wave, improving their record to 8-12 in the MISL. The "Yellow and Black" received two goals from forward Byron Alvarez and midfielders Matthew Stewart and Sandre Naumoski, helping the Storm to even up the I-94 rivalry series 3-3, with each team 2-1 at home. The Storm will continue their home stand next Friday night when they face off against the first-place St. Louis Steamers at 7:30 p.m. at the UIC Pavilion. The game can be heard live on www.chicagostorm.net in English and Univision Radio WRTO 1200 AM in Spanish.

"This was our best performance of the season," said Storm Head Coach and GM Frank Klopas. "Overall we performed to the level we are capable of. There are still things we need to work on, but I am very happy with this performance. A lot of guys are getting healthy and they are making a big difference when they return to the lineup. We have to keep focused, since we have another difficult game this week against St. Louis."

Storm forward Byron Alvarez registered the game-winning goal at 8:01 of the second quarter. The Mexico City, Mexico native notched his 13th goal of the season after defender Fred DeGand dished back to Alvarez on a three-on-two breakaway. Alvarez fired a shot past Wave goalkeeper Dan Green and into the lower right corner to give the Storm a 4-1 lead.

In the first quarter, the Storm scored first after defender Lazo Alavanja blasted a shot that deflected off Green right to Matthew Stewart who chipped in his first of two goals on the afternoon. However, Milwaukee answered right back less then 30 seconds later after forward Johnny Torres intercepted a pass in the box and fired a shot past Storm goalkeeper Danny Waltman, tying the game at 1-1. The "Yellow and Black" came right back and scored the first of six straight goals. Alavanja recorded his second assist of the game when he connected with Alvarez, who laced a shot that curved in past Green from the right side of the penalty area at the 10:37 mark.

The Storm dominated the second quarter, recording two goals of their own and shutting out the Wave after Waltman stopped both shots he faced. Stewart and Alvarez picked up their second goals of the game, helping the Storm to extend their lead to 4-1 before the half.

"Yellow and Black" midfielder Sandre Naumoski and defender Tijani Ayegbusi teamed up for a pair of goals early in the third quarter, helping the Storm extend their lead to 6-1. Naumoski's first goal came at 3:10 into the quarter after Ayegbusi found him streaking down the left side of the field. The Macedonian native tallied his seventh goal of the season after he gathered the pass and caught Green out of the box. Naumoski passed the ball off the boards to himself to get around Green and then slipped a shot into the open net. Less than a minute later, Ayegbusi recorded his third assist on the season after he connected with "Sonny" again, but this time he blasted a shot just inside the yellow line past Green and into the top right corner. Newcomer, Nino DaSilva also got in on the scoring action after he tallied his second goal of the season and in consecutive games on a pass off the boards from midfielder Andy Rosenband, giving the Storm a commanding 7-1 lead.

The final quarter featured a goal from Wave midfielder's Angel Rivillo and Semir Mesanovic, but the Storm was able to hold off any late rally and pick up a 7-3 victory. Danny Waltman picked his seventh win of the season recording eight saves on 11 shots faced. The Storm defense allowed only 15 Wave shots as four of them were blocked.

The I-94 rivalry will continue on Friday, February 11th when the Wave comes back into town to take on the Storm at the UIC Pavilion at 7:30 p.m. CT.
